Mrs. Short's Fifth Grade
Hello,

Welcome to fifth grade at Turrill Elementary.  I am very excited to work with your child this school year.  As we start the new year, you might wish to know more about me.

I started my teaching career in a second grade position at Lynch Elementary.  Next I moved to Irwin Elementary where I taught a second/third split for one year, first grade the next year, and then worked as part of the multiage teaching team for several years.  The multiage program included first, second, and third graders.  We also included a few kindergarten students who were ready for a challenge.  When Irwin closed, the multiage program moved to Schickler Elementary.  We continued it there for a few years until two of my colleagues retired.  I then taught third grade for two additional years at Schickler.
When it was announced that the district would start a year round school, I followed the developments carefully.  I believed the schedule was best for kids, and was interested in becoming part of an innovative program once again.  Then it was announced that a principal whom I respected would be heading the new school.  It was an easy choice for me to move to Turrill.
Since 2012/2013 would be a year of changes, it made sense to make several changes at once.  After reviewing the curriculum, I chose to move to fifth grade.  With August now behind me, I can say that it was an excellent choice.  Fifth graders are unique, fun, and enthusiastic.  I enjoy every hour of the day with them.
